Imo North Senator Ben Uwajumogu reportedly Dies after a Brief Illness – Multiple Sources

Nigerian Senator Ben Uwajumogu has died.

Mr Uwajumogu died on Wednesday morning in Abuja after falling ill for several weeks, according to his colleague Elisha Abbo. He was 51.

“I can confirm that my colleague and brother Ben Uwajumogu has left us to be with the Lord,” Mr Abbo told Nigeriaserve Wednesday afternoon. “It calls for sober reflection.”

“It is a clear indication that this world is like market and when you come you will go back home. Ben has come to the market he has behaved well and gone back to account for his good deeds on earth,” said Mr Abbo, a senator from Adamawa State. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” he added.

On another hand, his erstwhile friend and colleague, Rochas Okorocha confirmed to journalists that Uwajumogu slumped in the toilet and was confirmed dead after being taken to a hospital in Apo.

Mr Uwajumogu was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress. He was initially treated in the United Arab Emirates for his protracted illness, but recently returned to Abuja after showing signs of recovery, according to a source familiar with his situation.

The Senate has yet to formally announce the development, but a senior aide to Senate President Ahmed Lawan told Nigeriaserve his principal had been informed of the development and a formal statement would be issued soon.

The senator, who was a former Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uwajumogu was a ranking senator in the upper chamber as this was his second stint in the Senate. His last outing in the Senate was on Tuesday, December 10 when he raised a petition on behalf of a constituency member on his reinstatement into the Nigerian Army.
